Nuvi 40 had funky nav but worked generally for a couple of years. Then it started to have trouble to lock to satellites and finally would not at all. Well 2.5 years aint bad eh. So I got the successor, 42. Had trouble with satellites by end of first week, and after 2 weeks no satellite lock at all. Unable to get to maint window on either with 'turn on while touching lower left of screen'. Can the Sat Lock be fixed on a 40? It doesnt have any connect for my external powered antenna. THANKS | ||

Yes, unfortunately the newer models do not have an external antenna port. Loss of reception is probably related to a defective receiver chip or possibly a transient diode that is placed across the internal antenna to protect the receiver chip from ESD (electro-static discharge). The diodes can only absorb so many "hits" before they short to ground. When that happens, reception may be intermittent or lost completely. |
