The following information was derived from Garmin's website: The slot on the side or the bottom of the Nuvi is used for a Secure Digital (SD) card. The SD card is a commonly used memory card format. These memory cards come in various sizes and are usually sold as either a microSD or regular SD cards. Regular SD cards are larger and microSD cards are much smaller. These generally come with a regular SD adapter so you can use the microSD card in devices/card readers that only accept the regular SD card type. Depending on the Nuvi that you own, it may use either one of these SD card sizes. SD cards can be used to store files such as MP3 audio files, JPEG picture files or supplemental mapping. As long as the automotive device has the latest version of software, the device can use the following maximum card size from the table below. Please use the WebUpdater program at the following link to download the latest device software version: http://www.garmin.com/webupdater Please note that not all Nuvi models have the capability to play MP3 files or support JPEG picture files.
Unit Series | Maximum Size of SD Card | | Nuvi Series | 8GB1 | | LIVE Series | 8GB1 | Zumo 400 & 500 Series | 4GB | Zumo 220/350/600 & 605 Series | 8GB1 | Dezl Series | 8GB1 | StreetPilot c500 Series | 4GB | StreetPilot c300 Series | 2GB2 | StreetPilot i-Series | 2GB2 | StreetPilot 7200/7500 | 2GB | GVN 52 and 53 | 8GB1 | KNA-G510 | 8GB1 | | Depending on the model of the device, it may use either a full size SD card or a microSD card. Please refer to the units documentation for more information. When using a card with a larger capacity and when the files on the card are large in number and/or size, the device's ability to draw mapping may be slowed. For OEM dealer devices, please refer to the series above that fits the device. 1 Using an SD card size larger than 8GB is not supported for these devices. However, using one will not harm the device but it may or may not work. Also, Garmin supports all speed ratings (including unmarked cards). 2 StreetPilot c300 and i-Series units do not currently support the SDHC (High Capacity) cards. All other devices will support SDHC (High Capacity) cards and will support up to class 10 cards. The Nüvi Series are compatible with both normal Secure Digital (SD) data cards and Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) data cards. |
