Tried to apply for a quote but no new quotes are being accepted at scarcnet-usa.com. Was updating map on PC, deleted old map to make room. Received message error from explorer that encountered problem and has to close. Nuvi 660 no longer recognized in windows and can't get past loading maps screen. Windows no longer recognizes drive to put map back on. Have original backup files on DVD. Tried all resets, back of unit button, hold finger on bottom right of screen to remove user data, did the Pre-Boot, firmware did load. Put original map on SD Card, renamed from gmapprom.img to gmapsupp.img, still no boot. Is a repair possible? |

This is an indication that either the map file, firmware or system files are either corrupted, missing or both. In order to resolve this problem, the unit has to be flashed with a service firmware that will allow the unit to boot regardless of the corrupted or missing files. Once the unit boots, the unit will be once again recognized by the PC. All missing or corrupted files need to be restored/overwritten and then the unit will need to be reflashed with the current standard firmware. The reason why your unit isn't recognized by the PC is because it has to boot to the main menu before the USB subroutines are accessed. - Jim SHARCNET-USA |

Jim, If I send the unit to you would you be able to flash it for me with a service firmware? As you well know Garmin doesn't repair 660's anymore. I really like you web site and have read many good things about your company. I do have a backup of my files on DVD for restoration purpose. |

Jim, Please disregard my earlier post from Sept 5th requesting a repair. I was able to fix it by flashing the firmware, everything is operational again. I'm sure in the future I will need a repair done on one of my units, your site is bookmarked for future reference. |
