Unable to change audio output mode. Says can't be changed when headset is connected but there isn't one connected. What are my options? | ||

This problem is covered on our audio repair page: http://www.sharc.net/gps_audio_repair.htm But basically the problem is that you have a broken headphone jack connection between the jack and the main board. That bad connection is fooling your unit into thinking that a set of headphones are plugged in when they are not. As a result of this, you are unable to switch back to the internal speaker. We are quite familiar with this problem and have repaired units with this issue many times. The faulty connection must be resoldered to the board. | ||

Thanks. I took it apart and it is indeed pulled away from the board on one of the solder connections. What would something like this cost? | ||

Difficult to quote now that the unit has been taken apart. Hopefully nothing else has been affected. In some cases, resoldering is not possible if the solder pad has been pulled up from the board. This is not a do-it-yourself type of repair. The entire jack needs to have epoxy reinforcent to the board and the solder connection(s) reinforced with insulated buswire. Unfortunately, the electrical connections are also the mechanical connections holding the jack down to the board. Without additional reinforcement, the remaining connections may also break, causing the entire jack to come loose from the board. |
