I plugged my car chargger into my nuvi 350 the other day and the screen wigged out for a sec then turned off. Now regardless of what is powering it the screen will come on where it says garmin nuvi then make a short buzz sound then shut off. It will do that over and over until I unplug it. If I hold the power switch down it will go into pre boot mode then it will say booting then loading software then loading maps and shut off. ALso my computer no longer sees it. I have tried the reset. Any ideas? Thanks |

Hi Mark, Sorry to hear abut your Nuvi. I am assuming you were using an OEM charger. Non-OEM chargers have been known to damage Nuvi's as they are not always wired the same as the OEM. I'm not sure what you mean by "wigged out". The firmware routine for communicating with your Nuvi isn't accessed until the Nuvi has booted up properly. If there is a problem with the boot-up, it will never reach the communication routine and therefore not be recognized by your PC. Without seeing the unit, it's hard to determine if its a corrupted firmware issue or hardware issue. Pre-boot mode forces your Nuvi to be recognized by Windows and with the use of a special program, the firmware can be reflashed without using webupdater. - Jim |

No it was not an oem charger. Bought a spare ac and car charger on ebay. The unit will not charge and will only do what I mentioned earlier when it is plugged in. I tried the pre boot mode special program and did not work. When it went south it was the 3rd time I had used the aftermarket charger. When are you going to have your form back up to request a quote? I use this mostly for night fishing in the California delta. Has all the islands and tributaries on it for night navigation. |

I'm afraid if you used a non OEM charger, your unit is fried. ** Never ** , use an aftermarket charger. I have a graveyard full of dead boards that were fried due to aftermarket chargers used by customers. They are unpredictable and don't provide adequate protection from surges & transients. It's just too difficult to try to troubleshoot what part has failed and too difficult to unsolder/resolder the part(s)due to surface mount technology (SMT). We don't even try to troubleshoot the bad board -- too time consuming. We just replace the board. I'd recommend looking for a new unit, as this one will cost you more to repair than buying a new one. Good luck! |
