If your Nuvi won't turn on, it's possible that it's locked up. Try using the reset button as follows. Nuvi 3xx & 6xx Series: The reset is located on the rear of the unit, underneath the antenna. Press and hold it for at least 8 seconds and then release. Nuvi 7xx Series: Slide the On/off power switch to the left and hold for at least 8 seconds and then release. Nuvi 2xx & 2xxW: There are (2) different versions of this series. Some will have the reset on the bottom, where the decal is. There will be a small flap labeled "reset". On newer units, slide the On/off power switch to the left and hold for at least 8 seconds and then release. (c)2010 SHARCNET-USA. Wow, this worked for me! I have a Nuvi 760 and it "died" after I had brought it inside to charge from my laptop's USB port. 30 seconds with Google pointed me to your solution. It is now charging and will be re-installed this afternoon. Thanks again!! |

Thank you, thank you!! I thought I'd somehow murdered my Nuvi 350 today, running the car charger and turning it off and on too much or something. No amount of CPR, chest thumping, mouth-to-mouth, or pleading brought it back. But the reset button, which I'd never even noticed, did!! |

Check to make sure that the mini-USB connector in the back isn't loose or broken. Try plugging in either the DC car adapter or AC wall charger and GENTLY wiggle the plug up and down and see if the mini-USB jack is loose. If it's loose, the battery will never charge because the voltage is not getting to the battery. Also, when performing a reset, make sure the Nuvi is connected to an external power source. You can't reset with a dead battery. - Jim |

WOW. We have a 255W. I was at my wits end. Purchased the unlimited update program and did the first update from the Garmin website. It seemed to work for a while. Then it just shut off. When I turned it on, it shut off again. Thought it needed a charge. Plugged in to car charger. Came on and shut off again. Used your "hold the on/off key to left for 12 seconds. Voila. It worked. CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH. God Bless you. |

Are you using an OEM Garmin charger or a aftermarket charger? Many aftermarket chargers are not wired the same as the original charger and as a result causes the Nuvi to go into data mode, thinking it's connected to a PC. If you are using an OEM Garmin charger, then it's possible that you have a problem with the mini-USB port. Are you using the mini-USB port to charger it? What happens when you use the cradle to charge it? |

I have a GAEMIN 260w. The screen just says "GARMIN". After about 20 seconds it shuts off and then comes back to the same screen. It does not work. I tried holding the on-off switch for 8 - 12 sec. I tried the reset button. I tried both options together, etc. Any other suggestions? |

I have a Garmin Streetpilot c530…it was working fine one day, and the next, it wouldn't turn on, wouldn't charge (thru car or computer) and computer would not recognize device. I pressed the reset button…no luck…and changed the battery, but it still won't turn on or charge. Can it be repaired? |

I'd like to let everyone know that there are certain models at Garmin that are eligible for recall. I got lucky and mine is good to go back in on the recall. My Nuvi 750 wouldnt power up at all and it turns out there was a 3rd party supplier they went with and these batteries overheat and there fore...suck!!!! Here is the link to find out if yours is recalled. All you do is enter the serial # and you'll know in 4 seconds. |

I have a NUVI 755 that is unresponsive, dead, under any circumstance I have been able to explore. Garmin, too, is unresponsive, at least not interested in repair. What can be done? G. M. Woodwell |

First thing to try is performing a soft reset by holding the power switch to the left for 10 seconds and then releasing it. Common problems with this model can be a defective charger, defective cradle or USB port. All will prevent the unit from powering up and charging the internal battery. It is possible that a component has failed. If that is the case, you need to determine if the unit is repairable and is it worth it or better to purchase a new unit. |
