When you try to boot up your GPS, all seems to go well until you see the text "Loading Maps" and then your unit is stuck there.

Why is this happening?

In many cases, its because a file or series of files have been corrupted and when the corrupted file or files are loaded into memory, the GPS can not interpret them correctly, therefore the unit appears "stuck".

So, How do I fix this problem?

Well, for most people, you will probabley have to have someone else repair this problem for you.

Basically, resolving this issue involves force-flashing the unit with a "cure" firmware that tells your Nuvi not to look and load the corrupted files.

The Nuvi should then boot up properly but will not operate fully with the "cure" firmware.

Once the unit can boot properly, you will then be able to connect the GPS to a PC, using a USB data cable and be able to begin replacing the files.

What files should I replace?

That's a good question. You might start with the map file, the gpx file, poi file, etc. But if you don't know what you are doing, please let a professional help you.

Once the corrupted file(s) have been replaced, you'll then want to force-flash the unit with the latest standard firmware to restore all functionality.

i have had my newelectronx ntovgaair for 3.5 years now and it still works perfectly. the great thing is that the updates used to be free. so i would upgrade it all the time. i got the last update that was free and i haven't had any problems with finding anything.you might consider keeping it. if the gps isn't slow. the newer ones run faster. so if you are comfortable with it then just pay the money and upgrade it.if you want a faster gps and better features then go for a new one.but the gps will virtually last forever as long as you take care of it. i know if mine gets too old then i can sell it back to the company and get a credit towards a newer gps model. so you might want to look into getting one with a buy back plan plus free updates.
