Dear Nuvi 7x0 Owner, We are sending you this notice to inform you that Garmin has recalled firmware version 5.3 for the Nuvi 7x0 on May 16th, 2012. ** UPDATE ** Garmin has released v5.4 to correct these problems on June 21st, 2012. Version 5.3 was released on February 29th, 2012. This version of firmware is used on the following Nuvi 7x0 US models. Nuvi 750 Nuvi 760 Nuvi 770 Nuvi 780 Nuvi 7x0 owners have reported problems such as their units turning off after 10 seconds while running on battery power and also locking up while being powered by the cradle. Some owners have reported that performing a master/hard reset has resolved the problem but others have reported that they are still having problems. Some Nuvi 7x0 owners have reported that going back to firmware version 4.9 has corrected the problem. Version 5.3 has been pulled from the Garmin website and Garmin was only allowing version 4.9 to be downloaded. Additional information and history about this issue can be found at the following links: Nuvi 7x0 5.3 Pulled: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/36437 Garmin Website 7x0 5.4 Download: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3815 Nuvi 7x0 version 5.3 Released: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=144355&whichpage=1 Nuvi 7x0 version 5.1 Released http://www.poi-factory.com/node/32665 Hard Reset Instructions: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/9160 Nuvi 7x0 Problems/Trip Log Reset: http://www.sharc.net/discus/messages/6/469.html?1333569932 Nuvi 7x0 4.9 Firmware: http://gawisp.com/perry/nuvi/ If you are experiencing any of the above mentioned problems, we recommend backing up your favorites file "current.gpx" from your unit to your PC and performing a master/hard reset. If this does not resolve the problem, you may try re-installing version 4.9. To determine if your unit has version 5.3, at the main menu, press the wrench/tools icon. Next press the wrench/settings icon. Next, press the gears/system button. Now press the "about" button. If you see the following text: Software Version 5.30, then you have version 5.3. Garmin will issue a corrected firmware update once they have discovered the problem, however we don't know when the update will be available. We will send you an email as soon as Garmin posts a revised version of firmware. Should you have any additional questions about this issue, please feel free to email us.
